Meet Dr.
Callahan
William M. Callahan, DDS, an
Atlanta, Ga. native, has practiced General Dentistry since 1980.
He practiced with his father,
William L. Callahan, Jr., for 25 years until the latter's
retirement. In January 2007, he began practicing with Dr.
Garland Johnson in his Westminster office, while continuing to
practice in Atlanta two
days a week . In October of 2007, Dr. Callahan decided to make
Westminster his full-time practice home.
“Dr. Bill”, as he is known by
his patients and staff, is glad to call Westminster, SC his home
now!
Dr. Callahan earned his BS in
Mathematics from Emory University College then his Doctor of
Dental Surgery degree from Emory University School of Dentistry.
He was a member of the Crown and
Bridge Faculty at Emory Dental School, teaching clinical
dentistry to junior and senior dental students until the school
closed in 1988. Dr.
Callahan is active in all phases of organized dentistry, as a
member of the American Dental Association and the Hinman Dental
Society of Atlanta, serving as its President in 2000 and General
Chairman in 2003. He
still serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hinman Dental
Society. With his move
to Westminster, he joined the South Carolina Dental Association
as well.
Dr. Callahan is married to his
“bride” of 31 years, the former Lynn Goodroe of Nashville, TN.
They have three grown children, BJ, with his wife, Amanda, Joey
and Kathleen, who is planning an April 2010 wedding to Allan
Cecil. Dr. Callahan and
Lynn moved to their home on Lake Hartwell permanently in
December 2005, having lived there part time since 1984. Dr. Bill
enjoys fishing and working in the woods.
Lynn and Bill enjoy the quiet
and relaxation of living in their home in beautiful upstate
South Carolina!

Meet Debbie
Smith
Debbie Smith is our Office Manager. She is a
native of Westminster, a graduate of Westminster High School, and a
member of First Baptist Church of Westminster. She is married to
Clyde Smith, and they have a daughter Hannah. Debbie has worked in
the dental profession over 30 years seeing second and third
generations of families as patients. She began working for Dr.
Garland Johnson during high school part-time. Through the years
Debbie has studied radiology, anesthesia, plus various dental
assisting specialties all at Greenville Tech. The favorite part of
her career in dentistry is the reward she gets from helping
patients. In her spare time Debbie keeps up with Hannah’s various
sports activities.

Meet
Peggy Lee Carson
Peggy Lee
Carson is our fulltime dental assistant. She is a lifetime Oconee
resident having graduated from Walhalla High School. She and her
husband Mike have lived at their current home in Westminster for 12
years. Her first job in high school was at Bi-Lo; later she pursued
a career in cosmetology. Peggy began working as a dental assistant
and office manager for a dentist in Seneca from 1999 to 2006. It was
then that she began her association with Dr. Garland Johnson and
East End Dental, and now with Dr. William Callahan. She has studied
both dental radiology and anesthesia. Peggy enjoys travel,
decorating and working in the yard. She also spends time with her
precious long-haired dachshund, Lucky. Peggy’s favorite part of
working in the dental profession is the opportunity to meet new
people.

Meet Dionne
Scarborough Burrell
Dionne
Scarborough Burrell is our Registered Dental Hygienist. She was born
in Anderson and raised in Belton where she graduated from
Belton-Honea Path High School. She raised three sons there; two
attended BHP and one went to T.L. Hannah. Dee spent 25 years working
in retail for K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and Dillard’s. Additionally, she had
a five year stint at the Michelin Plant making the steel belt for
radial tires. Dee graduated from hygiene school at Greenville Tech
in 1996 and began her dental career in Atlanta. Dionne has lived in
Walhalla for three years and began working for Dr. Callahan in early
2007. Outside work, Dee’s spare time often involves her 8-year old
grandson Ashton. She also looks for opportunities to share her love
of line and shag dance with her oldest son Chris. Dionne enjoys her
hygiene career because of the variety of people she gets to meet and
the various challenges involved in their dental care. She says “this
is not just about cleaning teeth; it’s about the education of the
patients, too.” She continues by saying “and sometimes, if you’re
really lucky, you get a good doctor like Dr. Callahan.”

Meet Paula J.
Gray
Paula J. Gray
is our part-time dental assistant. She was born in York, PA and
moved to Westminster when she was 4 years old. Upon her graduation
from West Oak High School, she went to Tri-County Tech for her
dental assistant training. Paula worked for dental offices in Seneca
and Clemson before joining Dr. Callahan in 2007. Additionally, she
works at Wal-Mart of Seneca. She married Hollis Gray in 2008, and
they live in Seneca. Her hobbies include animals and their three
dogs, photography including weddings, and being part of the Drama
Team at Seneca Church of God of Prophecy. Paula’s favorite parts of
her dental assisting work is comforting children through their first
appointment and helping patients stay calm.
